Westgarth House

Location
Northcote, Naarm (Melbourne)

Land
Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung

Scope
Renovation and refurbishment of a Victorian family home

Type
Residential

Completion
2014

This grand Westgarth home boasted impressive proportions, lofty ceilings, and multiple bay windows that define good bones, but a previous renovation had created pokey, dysfunctional spaces that were falling apart faster than the original structure, while proving costly and inefficient to run. Brave New Eco was engaged to design an interior renovation featuring energy-efficient retrofits, a quality kitchen, family bathroom, and laundry with generous storage throughout. We honoured the home's beautiful original features through a graphic colour palette that creates cohesion between old and new, and provides the perfect backdrop for the family's vibrant collection of artwork and curiosities.

“Brave New Eco have excellent problem solving skills; great knowledge about options, suppliers and quality of different products; great relationships with tradesmen and great attention to detail and advice regarding finishes. We're enjoying all aspects of our home more. It is far more comfortable to live in. Everything looks and works better. It's a pleasure just to be at home now.”
